Jordan upgrades its AqabaIX using the DE-CIX as a Service (DaaS) model

Today, Aqaba Digital Hub, which taps into the growing demand for modern digital transformation in Jordan and the MENA Region, announced a partnership with interconnection platform operator DE-CIX for the future operations of "AqabaIX powered by DE-CIX".

AqabaIX, which currently connects 13 networks and has peak traffic of over 100 Gbps, will be upgraded to the DE-CIX Apollon interconnection infrastructure. It will be operated by DE-CIX under the DE-CIX as a Service (DaaS) model. Technical implementation of the upgrade is scheduled for the end of 2022. The new interconnection platform will serve as a new option for data flows between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, as well as a hub for regional connectivity.

Cloud and colocation

Aqaba Digital Hub offers multiple access points to carriers and ISPs from globally and regionally. The exchange provides direct access to major markets in the region from a single location. In addition, the hub offers cages, private suites, multiple racks, and internet exchange peering.

Jordan contributes around 75% of Arabic content on the Internet and is a neutral and stable economic country with an active tech and startup scene. The city of Aqaba is located on the Gulf of Aqaba, which is an arm of the Red Sea. The Aqaba Internet Exchange is strategically situated at the crossroads between multiple Middle Eastern countries and is also home to a landing station for submarine cable systems.
