NTT Plans New Data Centers in Kolkata, India
Japan's NTT has announced a plan to builds three datacenters in India, not in one of the emerging tech areas of recent years but in Bengal's Silicon Valley Tech Hub and the country's traditional intellectual center, Kolkata. The plans call for a total investment of around $240 million.
The three data centers will have a combined pull of 25MW of electricity, according to Shekhar Sharma, CEO of NTT Global Data Centers and Cloud Infrastructure India. It will encompass 600,000 square feet and be spread over a 7.5-acre site.
NTT already has 230MW of data center infrastructure in India, throughout the Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai areas.
The new program for Kolkata is part of NTT's announced program to build more than 1.5GW of data center capacity throughout the world in the next few years, spread across 20 countries.
