Chinese Government Agency Announces Rules to Control Generative AI Content

China's Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) wants rules govern artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI like OpenAI's ChatGPT. “China supports the independent innovation, popularization and application and international cooperation of basic technologies such as AI algorithms and frameworks,” the CAC said. “It also encourages the priority use of safe and reliable software, tools, computing, and data resources.”

Both Baidu and Alibaba, China's leading social-media companies, have recently launched generative AI along the lines of ChatGPT. The CAC now says content on or produced by these (or any other) services “cannot include any components that could undermine the state's authority, encourage secession, or disturb the social order.”

Businesses are in charge of protecting user data. Alibaba and Baidu, as well as Chinese companies SenseTime and Huawei are said to be moving forward with plans to integrate AI into their services in any case.
