Kingston, Jamaica based Digicel has announced the deployment of BroadForward Signaling Transfer Point (STP) systems to replace its current IP Transfer Point (ITP) systems in 26 markets in the Caribbean and Central America. Work is also ongoing to replace legacy Diameter routers with the BroadForward Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC). The deployment will help Latin American countries upgrade their digital economies post-COVID.

Digicel has opted to replace its end-of-life ITP routers with the new STP routers that run on converged signaling. The Jamaican operator can now replace standalone network functions and supports future HTTP/2 network deployments.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, 4G remains the dominant wireless cellular technology with 484,6 million connections and 21 percent annual growth, according to analysts Omdia. Digicel began operations as a mobile operator in Jamaica in 2001, and today offers mobile communications, business solutions, media and entertainment, and digital services to consumers and businesses in 32 markets across the Caribbean, Central America, and the Pacific.
