The European Commission (EC) has developed something called The Destination Earth (DestinE) initiative. Its purpose is to develop a digital model of the Earth on a global scale, to monitor, simulate and predict the interaction between natural phenomena and human activities. DestinE is part of the Commission's Green Deal and Digital Strategy.

The EC operates at a cabinet level within the European Union, with 27 key members and more than 30,000 employees. It has offices in Brussels and Luxembourg City.

“DestinE will unlock the potential of digital modelling of the Earth system at a level that represents a real breakthrough in terms of accuracy, local detail, access-to-information, speed and interactivity,” according to a statement from the EC. “The initial focus will be on the effects of climate change and extreme weather events, their socio-economic impact and possible adaptation and mitigation strategies.”
