Giants Vying with Startups to Grab the New AGI Personal Assistant Brass Ring

Earlier this month, I wrote briefly about ChatGPT becoming the browser of a new era. Its capabilities are also able to leapfrog the expectations people have with Siri, GA, and Alexa as well. Now, Bloomberg reports that indeed “the race is now on to build the most hyper-customized personal assistants.”

According to the Bloomberg article, “the incumbent digital assistants are unsatisfying and frustrating. Thus, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently mentioned the goal of making Alexa “the ultimate personal assistant,” Google AI research lab head Manish Gupta has claimed the company is reaching far, outlining tailored assistance and “a more intelligent helper” during a recent event in Bangalore, and Apple is doing whatever Apple always secretively does.

Meanwhile, LinkedIn and Inflection AI are serving up PI (short for “personal intelligence”), and Databricks has placed its strategy on the open-source Dolly 2.0.

Some will remember when the search engine Ask Jeeves was considered (at least by its creators) to be the ultimate in an online personal assistant. Time just keeps rolling along.
