YTL Power International launches 500 MW green data center park in Malaysia

YTL Power International Berhad announced today that it is developing a 500 MW data center campus in Johor, the first solar-powered data center park in Malaysia.

YTL Green Data Center Park, which is 30 kilometers (21 miles) from Singapore in the Iskandar region of Johor, will offer a variety of green power generation options alongside connectivity options on a large industrial site, of which 275 acres is designated as a data center development site. The first 72 MW data center will go online in Q1 2024, and more are in the pipeline.

YTL plans to use its expertise in renewable energy, telecommunications, and construction to develop state-of-the-art data centers in Southeast Asian countries including Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

As a result of its proximity to Singapore, the YTL Green DC Park will have dark fibre connectivity. It benefits companies operating in Singapore that are looking to expand, complement, and optimize their data center processes. The company claims that data centers in Singapore and other Malaysian locations will have access to dark fibre connectivity with ultra-low latency.

YTL has ambitious plans for its data centers. Dodid Pte Ltd, a 12.5 MW, Tier-III data center in Singapore with a capacity of 42,000 square feet, was acquired last December. In addition, work is underway to upgrade the company's 5 MW data center facility in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. This will offer customers a strategically located site near key internet exchange hubs in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
