Defense Ministry (MoD) Hires Netcompany to Migrate Pivotal Applications into MODCloud
Netcompany, the leading specialist provider of cloud-based information systems and services to government and industry, has announced that it has been selected by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to migrate its Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) application onto MODCloud.
The International IT services company Netcompany has migrated 47 applications for the UK's Ministry of Defence from their legacy private cloud environment to MODCloud. Many of these applications are used by hundreds of thousands of users, including military websites.
The successful migration will allow MoD end users to access both MODCloud's robust security features and its intuitive web interface, which delivers an excellent user experience on all popular web browsers, smartphones, and tablets.
There were two objectives for the migration: one, allowing app owners to manage and engineer their applications as needed, enabling app owners to grow usage if desired, and giving greater resilience and better cyber security. Additionally, the migration will result in significant cost savings for taxpayers.
Netcompany completed the application's discovery, design, build, and migration by June 2022, after collaborating with the UK Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Defence Core Enabling Services team.
The Ministry of Defence's (MoD) current rationalization plan is in progress. As a part of this migration, many of the MoD's old, less efficient applications will be replaced with a cloud-based, low-cost infrastructure and a sustainable environment for the MoD's data.
This plan aims to save money for the MoD and taxpayers and refactor applications to make them more agile. This will enable the MoD to rapidly deploy new services and deliver a higher scope for innovation.
Furthermore, it will grant them a level of agility that is beneficial to their day-to-day operations and capable of granting them new strength in times of crisis. Now the MoD is assured of its futureproofed capabilities and can better satisfy the demands of citizens, armed forces, and their families.
"Given our extensive industry and domain knowledge, as well as our strong track record, we understand the challenges that the MoD encounters daily and, as a result, were able to assist in rapidly and successfully deploying their applications. Today it is vitally important that our armed forces are as efficient, productive, and innovative as possible. Moving to public cloud infrastructure will deliver the flexibility and agility they need now and in the future." Commended Richard Davies, Netcompany's UK country manager.
According to Netcompany, it has a successful track record of working with UK public sector departments, enabling powerful and large-scale digital transformation projects that deliver societal impact.
For example, it created and deployed COVID-19 certification apps in Norway and Denmark. Also, it worked closely with NHS England on developing the Wales and England and COVID pass, which helped those countries return to society safely and quickly.
