Pytorch Has Established Its Foundation

The popular neural network framework PyTorch has an independent nonprofit organization that aims to accelerate AI software adoption.

PyTorch will operate under the Linux Foundation umbrella and boast a governing board that includes representatives of industry giants such as Amazon Web Services, NVIDIA, AMD, Meta, and Microsoft Azure.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, and Founder of Meta, stated. "The new PyTorch Foundation board will include many AI leaders who've helped get the community where it is today, including Meta and our partners at AMD, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia. I'm excited to keep building the PyTorch community and advancing AI research."

Meta aims to transition PyTorch seamlessly from the company to the new foundation within the next year.

In recent years, interest in PyTorch has grown substantially. Interest in Google-created TensorFlow surpassed it until around 2020, but Google Trends indicates that over the past year, PyTorch has come to the forefront, more than TensorFlow.

"Since we partnered with the AI community to create the PyTorch framework for AI research six years ago, open collaboration has been essential to its success," published by Meta in a blog post.

"With 2,400 contributors who have built more than 150,000 projects on the framework, PyTorch has become one of the leading platforms for AI research and commercial production use."

Having gained its independent foundation, the growth of PyTorch's popularity is most likely to continue to escalate.
