Digital Edge, a Singapore-based data center company, is reportedly near to purchasing a piece of land outside of Mumbai, India, to build its inaugural facility.

According to the India Economic Times, Digital Edge is negotiating the acquisition of a 47-acre land plot in Thane, Maharashtra, with real estate developer Assetz Property Group from steel manufacturer Mukand. Although the plan is still in its infant stage.

Anonymous sources with direct knowledge of the situation have stated that the freehold plot, located in Thane's Kalwe and Dighe areas, is valued at more than INR 806 crore ($97.2m).

NTT reportedly acquired approximately 55 acres from Mukand in the same region for INR 801 crore ($106m) last year. Digital Edge was established in August 2020 by New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners.

The company operates or is in the process of constructing over a dozen data centers across the APAC region, including eight in Japan (in Tokyo and Osaka), three in South Korea (in Seoul, Busan, and Incheon), one in Manila in the Philippines, and one in Jakarta in Indonesia.

In late November, Digital Edge CEO Samuel Lee stated that the company plans to expand its operations into additional markets across Asia, including India. However, he did not provide further details.
